In a resignation letter posted on social media, Gabbard revealed that her husband, Abraham Williams, was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. She described the coming months as a critical time for his treatment and recovery.
“I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming post,” Gabbard wrote in the letter addressed to Trump. Her resignation will take effect on June 30.
Trump confirmed the news and expressed appreciation for her service. “Tulsi has done an incredible job, and we will miss her,” he posted. The president named Aaron Lukas, the principal deputy director, to serve as acting director in the meantime.
